Casablanca

Casablanca is Morocco's largest city and the principal economic capital. It has grown quickly in the last century from a small town to a huge city of about five million inhabitants. Today, Casa, as the locals like to call it, is a thriving commercial and industrial metropolis.  

The largest port of the Maghreb, the city is busier than some European port cities. Casablanca was an important strategic port during World War II and hosted the Casablanca Conference in 1943 in which Winston Churchill and Franklin D. Roosevelt discussed the progress of the war.

Casablanca is fascinating and rich in culture; its Moorish Architecture reminds you of the past and its art deco makes you aware of the present. The city is not overly touristic, but does offer a few visit-worthy sites.

The central market: Truly a feast for the senses.
 
The Habous district: Morocco-lite, has a decent selection of bazaars, craft shops, bakeries and cafés

The Royal Palace: The Royal Palace in Casablanca is built in the Arab-Muslim architecture style and is similar to the other palaces in the Kingdom of Morocco. This Palace hosts several major national and international events
 
The Mohamed V square: Located south of United Nations Square, to which it is connected by Avenue Hassan II. Embellished by a large central fountain and dotted with palm trees, it is lined by the courthouse and the prefecture, whose tower looks down from a height of 50m. A statue between the two building pays tribute to General Lyautey, who built the port of Casablanca.
 
The residential area of Anfa: Houses the most fabulous villas of the city. In one of those, on the hill, in 1943 there had been the conference of Casablanca, when Churchill and Roosvelt decided the landing of the Army in Normandie and Sicily. The Nazis had been advised of a meeting at the " House Blanca ", but they thought it was the White House in Washington.

The Hassan II Mosque: Its minaret is the world's tallest at 210 meters.
The Casablanca Cathedral Sacre-Coeur: No longer in use for religious purposes, but it is open for visitor and a splendid example of Moorish architecture.
